The local Princes Trust Volunteer Programme is based at Newham college, but has teams running throughout the boroughs of Newham and Barking & Dagenham. The programme is for unemployed 16-25 year olds, to help them develop key skill areas such as, working with others, communication, caring for others, problem solving, taking responsibility, improving own learning and teamwork. The twelve week programme includes a two-week community based project, a three-week work placement, team challenge and end of team presentation. The team challenges and community projects are identified by the young people participating on the project, and volunteers often identify schools and fellow young people as who they would most like to work with. The individual community projects are developed and carried out by the young people in partnership with the organisations they have chosen to support. |
