The East London Network is a CVS-led partnership set up to support the voluntary sector in the boroughs of Waltham Forest, Havering, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge. The Network has been funded by The Association of London Government (formerly London Borough Grants) since January 2001, and has a specific focus of ´outer London boroughs with inner city needs.´ Membership of the Network Steering Group comprises the four Councils for Voluntary Service, grants officers from the Local Authorities and the Health Authority. In addition, the network has close links with Learning and Skills Councils and the East London Business Alliance.
The Network has a number of inter-related aims:
- Strategic Partnership working in order to support the sector e.g. policy responses to Government initiatives
- Researching particular areas of need.
Acting as a conduit for information between national agencies, Government departments and funders to the voluntary sector
- Encouraging groups doing similar work in different boroughs to come together to address areas of common need
- Bringing more funding into the area
- Supporting the voluntary and community sector in the four boroughs through regular mailings and website
- Setting up cross-borough services which will be of direct benefit to groups
