The Student Leadership Programme
The Student Leadership course offers young people an opportunity to develop their leadership skills through greater understanding of themselves and others. The course, modelled on the NCSL head teacher standards, has been co-developed and co-designed for young people by young people. Throughout this three year design process, more than 700 students, from 60 different schools, worked together to create a course that truly inspires other students to become leaders in their own schools and communities.
The course is perfect for individual schools, clusters of schools or other educational organisations working with young people.

The Student Leadership Course has been a huge success, having already been run in 65 schools around London. 95% of all teachers who attended these courses with their students rated it "very good" or better, with most participants saying it was excellent. How does it work?
This three-day course not only provides the forum and opportunity for young people to gain valuable leadership skills and the ability to grant accreditation to student participators, but the course also fulfils a number of national agendas. Such agendas include: Pupil Voice, Every Child Matters, Citizenship Education, Personalised Learning, and Extended Schools.
The course is run with one adult facilitator for every 15 young people. When appropriate, and possible, we include peer facilitators, which are students who have already experienced at least one of the modules and has applied to, and attended, a two-day intense training course.
The skills and learning outcomes that each student will take away from the course include:
- An understanding of, and the skills necessary in, becoming a leader
- The ability to work with others to form and create successful teams
- Leadership opportunities students can get involved within their school and community
- Managing a project from start to finish, while learning the importance of accountability, evaluation, and reflection
- Improved communication skills and the ability to practice public speaking
- Increased self-esteem and confidence.
Please view the sample course schedule for a more in-depth look at the activities along with their applicable learned skills.
